• Grant fee: The applicant should pay the announcement fee and the first annual fee (that is, the annual fee for the first to fifth years) within 3 months after receiving the notification of the granted decision.
• Annuity: Pay the annual fee for the next 5 years every 5 years. If the annual fee is overdue, you can pay it within a grace period of 3 months, and pay 30% of the annual fee for the current year as a late fee.

• Annuity: After the patent is granted, the annual fee shall be paid year by year from the third year of the application date, and the annual fee shall be paid before the last day of the month in which the application date is located. If the annual fee is overdue, it can be postponed and paid within 6 months after the due date at the latest, but additional penaltys are required. The penalty for the 3rd to 10th year is 85.00 euros, and the penalty for the 11th to 20th year is 230.00 euros.

IPVN conducts formality examination and substantive examination of utility model patents. IPVN has no restrictions on the fields of utility model patent applications. Utility models can be applied for in all fields covered by inventions, but all utility models will undergo substantive examination. A patent applicant/anyone needs to file a substantive request no later than 36 months from the filing date.

*Luxembourg is one of the only countries in the world that still retain Chapter I for 20 months to enter the national phase (the other is Tanzania). If it takes 30 months to enter the national phase, a request for international preliminary examination must be filed.
